1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.21 percent, at 2,903.71.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.43 percent lower at 9,103.36.

Combined trading volume of the two indices stood at 466.21 billion yuan (around 68.61 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 610.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 949 to 477 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,407 to 683 in Shenzhen.

Companies in crop farming, free-trade ports and poverty alleviation were among the biggest gainers.

Hefei Fengle Seed Co. Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily 10 percent limit to 10.95 yuan a share. Shanghai Pudong Road & Bridge Construction Co. Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily limit of 10 percent, ending at 7.43 yuan per share.

Automobile enterprises and securities firms led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, lost 2.01 percent to close at 1,503.06. Enditem
