Chinese police arrest 76 suspects in fake liquor case

CHONGQING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality announced that they have busted five large fake liquor production and sales gangs and arrested 76 suspects.

The suspects are accused of selling more than 2 million sets of fake liquor packing materials worth of 2 billion yuan (about 292 million U.S. dollars) to 18 Chinese regions, said the police.

A total of 21 production, storage dens have been busted, with 1 million liquor bottles and 1.1 million trade mark of Moutai, Wuliangye and other famous Chinese liquor brands seized.

To avoid being discovered, the suspects registered legitimate trade companies and glass factories. They sold the counterfeit packing materials which cost 2 yuan per set for 15 yuan. Enditem
