China Mobile Hong Kong connects Hong Kong's first 5G phone call

HONG KONG, May 17 (Xinhua) -- China Mobile Hong Kong Limited connected the first 5G phone call and video call in Hong Kong on Friday.

The connection was made by Li Feng, chairman of China Mobile Hong Kong, here Friday, the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Apart from a local call, a cross-border call was also made to Beijing, showing the high speed and stability of the 5G connection.

Sean Lee, director & chief executive officer of China Mobile Hong Kong, said 100m spectrum was used in the connection test, and the speed of the network would become even higher if 200m spectrum was used.

5G network users would enjoy a network speed 10 to 20 times faster than 4G, Lee added.

Li said that it was a historic breakthrough to introduce this latest technology into Hong Kong, pushing ahead with Hong Kong's goal to become an international innovation and technology hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Enditem
