BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are highlights of China's key cultural news from the past week:

-- China has 14 million authors of online literature

China's registered authors of online literary works totaled more than 14 million as of 2018 and organizations of online literature writers have been established in most of China's provincial-level regions.

In 2018, an increasing number of online literary works that were of the realistic fiction genre and the number and quality of historical works written in a way that reflects the times have increased.

-- The Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC) opens

The Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations opened Wednesday in Beijing. Thousands of people from 47 Asian countries and nearly 50 countries outside the region attended the conference in Beijing.

The week-long event includes an opening ceremony, panel discussions, an Asian culture carnival and Asian Civilization Week involving more than 110 activities to showcase the diversity and charm of Asian civilizations.

-- Asian Civilization Parade opens in Beijing

A week-long Asian Civilization Parade showcasing the continent's diverse and charming civilizations started in Beijing Thursday.

As one of the major sideline events of the CDAC, the parade runs twice a day -- at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day from Thursday to May 22 in the Olympic Park.

-- Food festival showcases cultural diversity in Asia

As one of the major sideline events of the CDAC, a week-long food festival was held in China to showcase Asia's diverse food cultures.

The festival is simultaneously being held in Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Guangzhou, aiming to promote exchange of Asian cultures by featuring foods from different countries and regions. Enditem
