BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.41 percent, at 2870.6 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.93 percent lower at 8916.11 points.
The combined trading volume of the two indices stood at 462.7 billion yuan (around 67 billion U.S. dollars), narrowing from 573.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 882 to 542 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,063 to 1,026 in Shenzhen.
Companies in the industries of aircraft were among the biggest gainers, while those in the agriculture, forestry, fishery and husbandry sector were the biggest losers.
Sichuan Haite High-Tech Co., Ltd saw its share price rise 8.37 percent to 12.82 yuan a share, and the share price of the Aerospace Hi-Tech Holding Group Co., Ltd increased 6.21 percent to 12.66 yuan.
Dayu Water-saving Group Co., Ltd saw its share price fall by the daily limit of 10 percent to finish at 6.18 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.64 percent to close at 1,469.31 points Monday. Enditem
