Taiwan's industrial output returns to growth in April

TAIPEI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Industrial production index in Taiwan swung back to growth in April after four straight months of decline, rising 1.04 percent from previous year to 103.81, according to latest industrial data released on Thursday.

The sub-index for the manufacturing sector, which accounts for 90 percent of the island's industrial output, added 0.94 percent from a year ago, while the sub-indexes for mining and civil engineering, and water supply sectors lost 1.46 percent and 0.17 percent, respectively. The sub-index for electricity and gas supply sector rose 2.68 percent.

Month on month, the index fell 0.56 percent in April, while the sub-index for the manufacturing sector also fell 0.74 percent.

After seasonal adjustment, industrial production index in April rose 5.49 percent from March, and the sub-index for manufacturing sector expanded 6.35 percent.

For the first four months, industrial production went down 3.05 percent from previous year, while the manufacturing output lost 3.24 percent. Enditem
