BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.17 percent, at 2,827.8.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.84 percent lower at 8,584.94.
The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 386.67 billion yuan (about 56.08 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 407.78 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,256 to 170 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,867 to 242 in Shenzhen.
Agricultural stocks were among the biggest losers, with Gansu Dunhuang Seed Co. Ltd. seeing its share price down by the daily 10-percent limit to 7.54 yuan a share.
