HOHHOT, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The first edition of the Baotou International Marathon will be held in August in Baotou, in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, organizers said on Tuesday.

Organizers said the event, slated for August 18, would include a full marathon, half-marathon and mini-marathon.

"The starting point is at the Baotou Olympic Park and runners will pass through a designated route which connects Saikhantara Grassland, Baogang Group, Aldin Square and other landmarks in Baotou," said organizing committee spokesman Wang Yakun.

The medals awarded to the top runners are inspired by deer, which represent the symbol of the city. Baotou, which means "city of deer" in the Mongolian language, is situated in the grasslands and has made great efforts in recent years to increase its green areas and beautify its environment.
