1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.09 percent, at 2,890.16 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.27 percent higher at 8,804.32 points.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 321.8 billion yuan (about 46.68 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 335.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 741 to 618 on the Shanghai bourse, and 1,142 to 876 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the artemisinin and breeding industry sectors were among the biggest winners, with Jiangxi Zhengbang Technology Co.,Ltd. seeing its share price up by the daily 10-percent limit to 19.12 yuan a share.

Stocks related to nonferrous metal and gold led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.93 percent to close at 1,455.75 points. Enditem
