BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The following is a list of major shows, concerts, exhibitions and events in China Sunday, June 23:

-- Opera: Turandot

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Opera House, National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA)

The NCPA opera "Turandot" is the first western opera the NCPA has launched since its inauguration. The Puccini Festival Foundation, as the specially invited partner in the NCPA's production, has rendered full support from opera creation to rehearsal.

In the NCPA production, Chinese composer Hao Weiya gives a fresh, original 18-minute finale, making him the third person ever to finish the ending of "Turandot."

-- Drama: Returning Home on a Snowy Night

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Theatre, NCPA

The drama, written by renowned playwright Wu Zuguang, features the life of famous actor Wei Liansheng and the tragic love story between him and Yuchun, a concubine of a bureaucrat named Su Hongji, which cost them their lives.

It premiered in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing in 1944 and was adapted to film in 1948, also directed by Wu. In the past decades, it was also adapted into Ping Opera, Cantonese Opera and ballet. In 2012, a first-class domestic drama team of NCPA rearranged it as a full-scale drama, which is also the NCPA's first modern classic play.

-- Concert: China National Symphony Orchestra 2018-2019 Concert Season, Portrait Concert of Zhang Qianyi

Time: 7 p.m.

Location: Beijing Concert Hall

The China National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO) will hold a symphonic suite and perform cello concerto created by Zhang Qianyi, a famous Chinese composer.

The CNSO is a national orchestra established from the former Central Orchestra (founded in 1956) with support from the government in 1996. It consists of three art production units -- a symphony orchestra, chorus and Beijing Concert Hall. Enditem
