BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The following is a list of major shows, concerts, exhibitions and events in China on Monday, July 1:

-- Ballet "Sparkling Red Star"

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Opera House of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing

Produced and performed by the Shanghai Ballet, the ballet presents the story of a young Red Army soldier Pan Dongzi, who fought for his faith and fellow people, after his heroic childhood. The show pays tribute to and continues the legend of the child character who became known by many Chinese people in a movie premiered in 1974 with the same name.

-- Concert "Merry Festival Songs"

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Beijing Concert Hall, Beijing

The concert features a star-studded lineup of famous Chinese singers, opera artists, quartets and choirs, who will perform classic pieces such as "Ode to the Red Flag" and "Love of My Motherland China," to celebrate the 98th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, which falls on July 1.

-- Ballet "The Red Detachment of Women"

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Location: Opera Hall of the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Shanghai

The show, considered as one of the most popular modern Chinese ballets, tells the story about a group of poor women in China's southern Hainan Island who joined the Red Army in the 1930s. It will be performed by China's world-class art troupe the National Ballet of China. Enditem
