HONG KONG, July 2 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) will open Wednesday in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), featuring some 210 invaluable treasures.

Entitled "The Road to Modernization -- 70 Years of the People's Republic of China," the exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong Museum of History. An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday.

More than 170 treasures on display are provided by the National Museum of China (NMC), and the rest exhibits come from the Hong Kong Museum of History.

With videos and multimedia programs offered at the exhibition, visitors will be able to learn about China's achievements in modernization during the past decades in areas from economy and education to technology and culture.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lau Kong-wah, secretary for home affairs of the HKSAR government, said the exhibition provides a good opportunity for visitors to learn about the achievements of China over the past 70 years.

Hong Kong has played a unique role in the country's reform and opening up, and the future of Hong Kong will continue to be tied to the development of the country, Lau said.

Wang Chunfa, curator of the NMC, said he believes the exhibition will help visitors of Hong Kong, in particular youngsters, more deeply understand the country's extraordinary road to modernization.

The exhibition will run until Aug. 26. It is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the HKSAR government and the NMC. Enditem
