BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key cultural news from the past week:

-- Public opinion invited for draft law on cultural industries promotion

China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) has begun soliciting public opinions on a draft law on the promotion of cultural industries.

The legislation move aims to boost healthy and sustainable development of cultural sectors and meet intellectual and cultural needs arising from people's aspirations for a better life.

-- 36 world-class theatre plays to be screened in Chinese cinemas

A total of 36 world-class plays, musicals, operas and documentaries will be screened in cinemas across China in the second half of 2019.

The screening list includes "The Lehman Trilogy," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "The King and I" and "Sleeping Beauty."

-- China launches fire safety campaign on cultural relics

The National Cultural Heritage Administration and the fire-fighting bureau under the Ministry of Emergency Management have issued a circular to launch a campaign of fire hazard checks and rectification on cultural relics.

The campaign, which starts this month and runs through mid-September, will cover the country's immovable cultural relics as well as collection and preservation sites such as museums and memorials.

-- China regulates planning of cultural, tourism projects

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued a regulation on the planning of cultural and tourism projects by relevant departments and local administrations.

Relevant departments and administrations should fully demonstrate the necessity of planning cultural and tourism projects, and formulate blueprints that include timeframe for the planning and construction, personnel and budget. Enditem
