BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are highlights of China's key news on archaeology from the past week:

-- Exhibition on ancient kingdom opens in Dunhuang

An exhibition on the Tibetan Tubo Kingdom (about 618-842) has opened in the city of Dunhuang, northwest China's Gansu Province.

Over 120 cultural relics from nearly 30 museums and cultural institutions from China and abroad are on display, including silk products, gold and silverware and Buddha statues.

The exhibition presents how the Tubo people absorbed the culture of its neighboring cultures between the 7th and 9th century, and is important for research on the ancient Silk Road, Tubo kingdom and central Asia, according to Dunhuang Academy.

-- 2,000-year-old bronze mirror with Confucius portrait exhibited in east China

A 2,000-year-old bronze mirror with a Confucius portrait was exhibited in the provincial museum in east China's Jiangxi Province, according to the museum.

This was the first time that the mirror was exhibited since Chinese archeologists unearthed it from the Marquis of the Haihun tomb dating back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-24 AD) in 2015.

There are 1,850 characters on the portrait, which is on the back of the mirror that is around 50 to 60 centimeters wide and 70 to 80 centimeters tall.

-- Animal themed cultural relics on exhibition in East China

An exhibition highlighting animal-shaped cultural relics has opened to the public at Nanjing Museum in east China's Jiangsu Province, according to the museum.

More than 40 culture relics, including pottery horse and dog in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) and fish-shaped tri-colored glazed pottery in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), were exhibited in the museum.

There were also specimens of a snub-nosed monkey, crested ibis, and other wild animals at the exhibition. Enditem
