SHANGHAI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 392 deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) underwent a four-day workshop in Shanghai on improving the Chinese socialist legal system, which ended Monday.

The workshop is the eighth of its kind for the 13th NPC.

It featured courses delivered by deputy secretary-generals of the NPC Standing Committee, and officials with special committees of the NPC and working committees of the NPC Standing Committee.

They covered topics including the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance, compliance with the Constitution, and progress and major issues in the drafting of the country's civil code.

The 13th NPC Standing Committee has attached great significance to the study and training of NPC deputies, with a number of workshops held on fulfilling lawmakers' duties, basically covering all newly-elected primary-level deputies.

Four workshops respectively on budget review and supervision, improving the Chinese socialist system of laws, poverty alleviation and the rural vitalization strategy, and ensuring and improving people's living standards were scheduled for 2019 by the general office of the NPC Standing Committee, with the first held this May in Beijing.

More such workshops will be held within the tenure of the deputies to the 13th NPC based on their duties. Enditem
