SANAA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched drone attacks at Jizan Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

"The attacks targeted aircraft hangars and caused a suspension of the air traffic in the airport," Yahya Sarea, the Houthi military spokesman said in a statement.

There is no Saudi confirmation of the attack yet.

Houthi rebels have recently stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, but most of the missiles and drones were intercepted by the kingdom's air forces.

On Tuesday morning, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels launched multiple airstrikes on rebel-held positions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

The UN envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths arrived in Sanaa on Tuesday afternoon to push forward the peace process between Yemen's Saudi-backed government and Iran-allied Houthi rebels. Enditem
