SANAA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched bomb-laden drone attacks at Jizan airport and King Khaled Air Base in Asir region in southwestern Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, Houthi military spokesman said in a statement.

"The attacks targeted aircrafts hangars and other military facilities and caused a suspension of the air traffic in both airports," Yahya Sarea said in the statement.

There has been no Saudi confirmation of the attacks yet.

Houthi rebels have recently stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, but most of the missiles and drones were intercepted by the kingdom's air forces.

On Tuesday morning, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels launched multiple airstrikes on rebel-held positions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

UN envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths arrived in Sanaa on Tuesday afternoon to push forward the peace process between Yemen's Saudi-backed government and Iran-allied Houthi rebels. Enditem
