BEIJING, July 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 17 officials in north China's Shanxi Province have been held accountable for statistical fraud, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS had filed an investigation into the statistical case over serious violations of discipline and law in Yingxian County, Shuozhou City of the province in May last year.

Those held accountable include the then Party chief of the Yingxian County, who received punishment of being dismissed from Party and administrative posts.

China will continue to maintain a hard-line stance on and zero tolerance for data fraud, the NBS said in a statement.

China's central authorities have introduced a new regulation to prevent statistical fraud, with the NBS responsible for conducting inspections and pushing for rectification. Enditem
