CHANGSHA, China, July 20 (Xinhua) -- China's first ever Olympic triple jump medallist Dong Bin said Saturday he will recover in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Dong, who won a bronze medal with 17.58 meters at the Rio 2016, has been struggling with an ankle injury sustained during the Rio Olympics which forced him pulling out after three jump attempts.

"I could hardly compete in the past years and didn't take any contest in 2018. But fortunately I've got recovery this winter and competed at the National Championships. I'll focus to take care of my injury and I promise to compete next year in the Tokyo Games," Dong said.

Last week, Dong won a bronze medal at the 2019 National Championships. Talking about his performance in the Championships, the 31-year-old said:" This result was not a surprise. My target is the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and then I'll work out with my future plan based on the performance in the games."

Dong is a two-time gold medallist at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. Enditem
