GUANGZHOU, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The following are shows and exhibitions available in Guangzhou in the coming week:

Maggi Hambling Paintings and Drawings: For Beauty is Nothing But the Beginning of Terror

Date: July 28 - Aug. 25

Place: Guangdong Museum of Art

Introduction:

For Beauty is Nothing But the Beginning of Terror is the British artist Maggi Hambling's first large-scale solo exhibition in China. It will display a selection of Hambling's works which were created since the 1960s. The 100 works include oil paintings, sketches and sculptures.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Child Show

Date: July 23 - 28

Time: 10:30 a.m., 3 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.

Place: Guangzhou Opera House

Introduction:

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar," written and illustrated by Eric Carle, has delighted readers across the world since it was first published in 1969. The story has made its way off the page and onto the stage. 75 lovable puppets from Carle's cartoon books will transform the stories into real scenes.

Piaf! The Show

Date: July 24 - 28

Time: 2:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.

Place: Opera Hall, Guangzhou Opera House

Introduction:

Piaf! The Show tells the amazing story of the life and career of French singer Edith Piaf. In two 45-minute acts, the show narrates the rags-to-riches story of the singer's career through her unforgettable songs, complemented by a visual tapestry of previously unreleased photographs and images.
