XI'AN, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The emblem and mascots of the 14th Chinese National Games, respectively named "Jade Bi" and "The four most precious endangered animals in Qinling Mountains", were unveiled here on Friday.
The unveiling came at 20:21 Beijing time, a number meant to mark the year 2021 when the ancient city of Xi'an to hold the multi-sports event.
Jade Bi is a kind of round ornament used for god worship ceremonies in ancient China. In the emblem, a image of pagoda mountain and caves in Yan'an was in the central, surrounding by the images of a footballer, a swimmer and a track and field athlete. The three images form the prominent lines of the Jade Bi.
"The emblem of the 14th Chinese National Games combines Shaanxi's traditional and revolutionary culture, an international, modern style and sports together," said Guo Xianlu, designer of the emblem and the headmaster of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts.
"They vividly manifest China's national spirit, contemporary image and cultural charm, display the passion, youth and vitality of sports," Guo added.
The four mascots, representing the four kinds of endangered animals in the Qinling Mountains, namely Crested Ibis, Giant Panda, Golden Monkey and Takins, are respectively in yellow, blue, red and green.
The officials of the Games' organizing committee told Xinhua that the colors had their meanings respectively: "Yellow means rich, blue means chasing dreams, red stands for Shaanxi's red revolutionary tradition and green represents ecological civilization."
A total of 1,012 emblem and 256 mascot designs were submitted to Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts during the collection period from May 18 to August 1 last year.
After rounds of selection and revision, the eventual emblem "Jade Bi" and mascots "The four most precious endangered animals in Qinling Mountains" have been selected and confirmed on May 27.
Friday's launching ceremony was held at the South Gate square of the Xi'an city wall, which is an extension of the prior Tang dynasty structure.
