SANAA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthis on Monday claimed multiple bomb-laden drone attacks on three Saudi airports in the kingdom's southwestern regions of Asir and Najran, the group's al-Masirah TV reported.
The attacks targeted "military facilities" at King Khaled Air Base and Abha airport in Asir, and Najran airport in the region of Najran, the television said, citing a statement by a Houthi military spokesman.
Meanwhile, Saudi-led coalition said its air defence forces intercepted two drones launched by the Houthis toward civilian airports in Khamis Mushait city of Asir region.
"The Houthi militias have began using simultaneously attacks," Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television quoted the coalition's spokesman Turkie al-Maleki as saying, describing the attacks as "terrorist acts."
Al-Maleki did not provide any other details on the Houthi-claimed attack on Najran airport.
Houthis have recently stepped up drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, but most of the drones were intercepted by the kingdom's air forces.
Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition against Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen for more than four years in support of the exiled internationally-recognized government of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Enditem
