1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares end lower Wednesday

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stocks closed lower Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.32 percent, at 2,768.68 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.5 percent lower at 8,814.74 points.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 376.34 billion yuan (about 53.76 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 523.63 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 838 to 538 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,322 to 720 in Shenzhen.

Stocks in nonferrous metal, rare earth and electricity led the gains, while stocks related to free trade zones and securities led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, lost 0.51 percent to close at 1,500.25 points. Enditem
