JINAN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Miao Ruilin, former vice governor of east China's Jiangsu Province, stood trial Wednesday on charges of taking bribes.

Prosecutors at the People's Procuratorate of Qingdao City in east China's Shandong Province said that Miao took advantage of his posts in Jiangsu between 2005 and 2016 to assist organizations and individuals in project approval, project contracting and job promotions.

In return, Miao illegally accepted directly or via his close relatives money and gifts worth over 7.2 million yuan (about 1.02 million U.S. dollars), the Intermediate People's Court of Qingdao heard.

The verdict will be announced at a later date. Enditem
