1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares end lower Friday

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.71 percent to close at 2,774.75 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.39 percent lower at 8,795.18 points.

The combined turnover in the two indices stood at 380.7 billion yuan (about 54.28 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 367.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks lost, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,178 to 237 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,703 to 388 in Shenzhen.

Stocks of swine breeding, communication equipment and aviation sectors were among the biggest losers. Shares of Jiangxi Zhengbang Technology, a major swine breeding company, slumped 9.44 percent to 18.03 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1 percent to close at 1,507.71 points. Enditem
