ADEN -- The United Nations announced on Sunday that the fighting between forces of the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) left around 40 people dead and 260 others injured.

"Scores of civilians have been killed and wounded since Aug. 8 when fighting broke out in the city of Aden. Preliminary reports indicate that as many as 40 people have been killed and 260 injured," the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande said in a statement. (Yemen-Aden)

RAMALLAH -- Palestinians on Sunday denounced "raids by Israeli settlers" into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem on the first day of Eid al-Adha which led to clashes between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police.

Preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound Ikrima Sabri told Xinhua in a telephone interview that the Israeli police "stormed into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and tried to evict worshippers out of it by force." (Palestinian-Adha)

TEHRAN -- Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday that intervention of some extra-regional countries in the Gulf region only makes the problems more complicated.

Some extra-regional countries, including the United States, seek to make the world believe that the Gulf region is insecure, Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday. (Iran-U.S.)

SANAA -- At least nine people of two internally displaced families were killed when a Saudi-led coalition airstrike struck a house in Yemen's northwestern province of Hajjah on Sunday, medics and local residents said.

The airstrike hit the house in Mustaba district, killing the nine people, including five children, two women and two men, they said. (Yemen-Airstrike) Enditem
