BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.25 percent at 2,815.8 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.48 percent higher at 9,009.68 points.
Combined turnover of stocks on the two exchanges stood at roughly 394 billion yuan (about 56 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from some 402 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 755 to 611 on the Shanghai bourse while gainers outnumbered losers by 1,058 to 958 in Shenzhen.
Pharmaceutical and consumer electronics sectors led the gains, with shares of Tibet Aim Pharm. and Jianmin Pharmaceutical Group surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.24 percent to close at 1,555.77 points. Enditem
