BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are a selection of shows available in Beijing in the coming week:

NCPA Opera La Fanciulla del West

Venue: Opera House, National Centre for the Performing Arts

Introduction:

Based on David Belasco's drama The Girl of the Golden West, La Fanciulla del West has been considered an oddity in Puccini's work, the only lyrical opera featuring roughneck gold miners in the American west. As Madame Butterfly and Turandot testified before, Belasco liked stories about exoticism. The NCPA production will unveil the China premiere of La Fanciulla del West, under the direction of Thaddeus Strassberger, while Andrea Battistoni takes the baton.

Musical Stage Performance: The Legend of Kung Fu

Date: August 14-31

Time: 17:15, 19:30

Venue: Beijing Red Theater

Introduction:

The principal character, Chun Yi, was sent to a Buddhist temple to be a monk at a young age. Initially, the young monk had a hard time getting used to the strict discipline of the temple until he became interested in the unbelievable power of Kung Fu. From then on, he worked hard on Kung Fu and made great achievements over the years. On the way to seeking enlightenment, Chun Yi suffered a lot before becoming a great Buddhist master. The actors in this performance are young but well-trained. This show consists of six scenes, unifies Chinese traditional arts and modern dance, and is a must-see for travelers and Kung Fu enthusiasts.

NCPA International Theatre Festival 2019: Vertebra Theatre Momo

Date: August 23-25, 2019

Venue: National Centre for the Performing Arts

Introduction:

In 1973, the book Momo by Michael Ende, one of the most famous German contemporary writers, was published and well-received by many people. One year later, Momo won the German Youth Literature Award. The store emphasizes the fact that we spend too little time on ourselves and our lives, and our increasingly busy daily lives have diminished human nature and our values. According to Michael Ende's description in the book Momo, "Time is life, and life is in the heart."

Madagascar: The Musical!
