HEFEI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- China has exported to Japan five Chinese alligators bred in captivity, according to a breeding center in east China's Anhui Province on Sunday.

After passing quarantine checks, the five baby alligators, with a length of about 30 cm each, left Xuancheng city for Tokyo on Friday.

The alligators imported by a company in Tokyo will be used as ornamental animals, said sources with the breeding center.

The Chinese alligator, also known as the Yangtze alligator and listed as a national first-class protected species in 1972, is endemic to eastern China. Anhui Province has been breeding the alligators in captivity since 1982.

This is the third batch of Chinese alligators bred in captivity exported to Japan since 2017. Enditem
