BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are a selection of shows available in Beijing in the coming week:
Lightwire Theatre DINO-LIGHT
Date: Aug. 27 to 29
Time: 19:00
Venue: National Centre for the Performing Arts
Introduction:
"DINO-LIGHT," formerly known as "Darwin the Dinosaur," was the recipient of the prestigious Jim Henson Foundation Grant. In this original storyline, a scientist with magic powers brings a friendly dinosaur to life. When the dinosaur wanders away from home, he discovers a wonderful world full of creatures that help him find the true meaning of love. This glow-in-the-dark adventure has been praised for its cutting-edge blend of puppetry, technology and dance.
The World Picture: Xu Bing's Dragonfly Eyes
Date: Aug. 20 to Oct. 24
Venue: Today Art Museum
Introduction:
As the third part of "The World Picture: Xu Bing's Dragonfly Eyes," the "Keywords" Exhibition Area attempts to establish a multi-dimensional hybrid integrating art research and visual display. The conceptual interpretation, literature description and exhibition of works of art contained in the nine "keywords" allow viewers to gain a general understanding of the Dragonfly Eyes.
Future of Today: DE JA VU
Date: Aug. 19 to Oct. 24
Venue: Today Art Museum
Introduction:
Mark Weiser's prophecy that "The most profound technologies are those that disappear. They weave themselves into the fabric of everyday life until they are indistinguishable from it" echoes through the exhibition: clattering data centers tower over underpopulated areas, and underwater fibre-optic cabling resurfaces on unpopulated beaches. The exhibition is itself a story about deja vu -- a collective one about humans and machines. The humanoid robots that have been "switched on" in recent years (from "Sophia" to Google's robots) echo an ancient deus ex machina, while the gentle, invisible virtual assistants -- the Siris, Cortanas and Alexas who turn off lights for us -- are reminiscent of the once omnipresent gods and spirits.
