BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key technology news from the past week:
GUIDANCE SYSTEM FOR AIRPORT
China's self-developed docking guidance system has completed the first verification test in low visibility conditions at the new Beijing Daxing International Airport.
The docking system has various functions including automatic route planning and light guiding, which will help the new airport to streamline operations by reducing controller-pilot communications and runway occupancy time.
SMART OIL TANKER
New Vision, the world's second smart very large crude carrier (VLCC) with a loading capacity of 308,000 tons was delivered to its customer in the coastal city of Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning Province.
A smart system enables New Vision to achieve assisted autopilot navigation, intelligent liquid cargo management, integrated energy efficiency management, equipment operation and maintenance, and ship-shore communication.
POLAR-OBSERVING MICROSAT
China will send a remote sensing satellite into orbit for polar climate and environment observation in September.
The satellite called "Ice Pathfinder" (Code: BNU-1), which weighs only 10 kg, is equipped with high-resolution cameras that can achieve full coverage of the Antarctic and Arctic in five days and strengthen monitoring of sea ice drifts and ice-shelf calving. It will enable scientists to monitor and obtain imagery and data of the difficult-to-access areas.
KZ-1A ROCKET
Two satellites for technological experiments were sent into space by a Kuaizhou-1A, or KZ-1A, carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Saturday.
Kuaizhou-1A, meaning speedy vessel, is a low-cost solid-fuel carrier rocket with high reliability and a short preparation period. The rocket is mainly used to launch low-orbit microsatellites. Enditem
