BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the industrial hemp and agricultural planting sectors leading the gain.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.12 percent to close at 3,021.2 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent lower at 9,964.93 points.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 99.97 points on Tuesday, down 0.88 points, or 0.87 percent, from the previous trading session.

Roughly 37.8 million shares worth 559.1 billion Vietnamese dong (24.3 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 1.1 million shares valued at nearly 13.1 billion Vietnamese dong (568,696 U.S. dollars), and sold 2.9 million shares valued at over 69.5 billion Vietnamese dong (more than 3 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.3 percent, or 9.38 points, to close at 3,155.71.

A total of 927.37 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 989.70 million Singapore dollars (about 717.28 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 210 to 170.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,595.85, down 8.62 points or 0.54 percent, and the Emas was at 11,241.79, down 39.93 points or 0.35 percent.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 10.46 points, or 0.17 percent, to a level of 6,336.67 on Tuesday.

Some 582,461 transactions were booked, involving 14 billion copies of shares with a value of 7.7 trillion rupiah (about 548 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 2.28 points, or 0.01 percent, to 26,683.68 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,634.47 and 26,870.77. Turnover totaled 75.24 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.60 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 0.52 point, or 0.08 percent, to close at 675.54 points.

A total of 7,601 shares worth 75.67 million riels (18,457 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.39 percent lower on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 30.64 points to 7,929.48. The all-share index went down by 12.86 points, or 0.27 percent, to 4,786.45.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index ending at a six-week high as investor sentiment was bolstered by the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar which gave exporters a lift and buoyed the broader market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 73.68 points, or 0.35 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,392.10, marking its highest closing level since Aug. 1.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished lower on Tuesday, with steep falls in healthcare, industrials and info tech sector dragging the index lower.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 33.90 points or 0.51 percent at 6,614.10, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 32.10 points or 0.47 percent at 6,728.00.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped by 0.55 percent to 11,143 on Tuesday.

The drop was led by Cannasouth Limited, a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of medicinal cannabis treatment options for clinicians, doctors and patients. It went down by 28 percent to 0.54 NZ dollars (0.35 U.S. dollars), while Tourism Holdings Limited jumped by 4.57 percent to 4.12 NZ dollars.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks gained 22.18 points, or 0.08 percent, to close Tuesday's morning session at 26,703.58 points.
