NANCHANG, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese player Peng Shuai beat eighth-seeded Kristyna Pliskova in the second round of singles at the WTA Jiangxi Open, while China's top seed Zhang Shuai lost out to her compatriot Zhu Lin.

In last year's Jiangxi Open, top-seeded Zhang Shuai was beaten by Zhu Lin. One year later, these two Chinese players met again at the tournament. However, Zhang played poorly in the first set and lost 0-6. In the second set, Zhang asked for a medical time out and quit the game after a physical examination. It only took 38 minutes to finish the match, which was supposed to be an exciting one.

China's 33-year-old player Peng Shuai overcame the physical energy challenges and claimed the victory and moved to the quarterfinals after beating Czech Republic's Pliskova 6-3, 0-6 and 6-4.

Also on Thursday, Serbia's Nina Stojanovic beat the former Grand Slam winner Samantha Stosur 6-4, 6-3. Chinese player Wang Xinyu lost out to fourth-seeded Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina. Enditem
