BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's coastal bulk freight market has seen an overall demand growth in the week ending Thursday, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).

The composite index for coastal bulk freight climbed up 1.3 percent to 1,095.28 week on week, the SSE said.

The sub-index for coal witnessed a growth of 1.8 percent to 1,127.90 and that for grain rose by 1.0 percent to 978.43.

Metal ore index surged by 1.1 percent to 1,012.14, while crude oil index remained flat at 1,557.48.

The SSE initiated the index in 2001 under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport to reflect the fluctuation of the Chinese coastal transport market. Enditem
