China science, technology news summary -- Sept. 13

BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

NEW SATELLITES

China sent a resource satellite and two small satellites into planned orbits from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province on Thursday.

The resource satellite, ZY-1 02D, will provide observation data for natural resources asset management, ecological monitoring, disaster prevention and control, environmental protection, urban construction, transportation and contingency management.

One of the two small satellites launched on the same rocket belongs to Beijing Normal University, and is named BNU-1, and the other belongs to a Shanghai-based private space technology company.

BNU-1 will be mainly used to monitor polar climate and environment, greatly helping research of the polar regions and global climate change.

COMPUTER INDUSTRY

As the world's largest computer manufacturing base, China's revenue from major related business reached 1.95 trillion yuan (274.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018, up 8.7 percent year on year.

With a vast and open computer-related market, China is attracting more and more overseas companies to seek potential business opportunities.

ROBOTICS FACTORY

Swiss tech giant ABB began construction of its new 67,000-square meter robotics manufacturing and research facility in Kangqiao, Shanghai on Thursday.

With an investment of 150 million U.S. dollars, the facility is expected to be put into use in 2021.

It is designed to be the most advanced, automated and flexible factory in the robotics industry worldwide, utilizing the latest manufacturing processes -- a cutting-edge center where robots make robots. Enditem
