1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.98 percent, at 2,977.08 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.01 percent lower at 9,781.14 points.

The combined trading volume of stocks in the two indexes shrank to 508.02 billion yuan (about 71.82 billion U.S. dollars) from 546.92 billion yuan the previous trading day.

On Shanghai bourse, most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,166 to 279. And on Shenzhen bourse, losers outnumbered gainers by 1,530 to 587.

Companies in the industries of digital currency and self-driving vehicle saw robust growth in its share price. Shares of Foryou Corporation rose by the daily 10-percent limit to 12.5 yuan per share.

Bucking the upward trend, shares in the sectors of breeding, new material and pork led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.22 percent to close at 1,684.32 points. Enditem
