ANKARA -- The U.S. and Turkish troops held the third joint land patrol on Friday in the planned safe zone in northern Syria, Turkey's Defense Ministry said.

"Turkish Armed Forces and the U.S. personnel started the third unified land patrol in the east of Telabyad within the scope of the safe zone facility in eastern Syria with the participation of land vehicles and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles)," the ministry said on its Twitter account. TUNIS -- Tunisian parliamentary elections officially started on Friday in six overseas constituencies to elect 18 of the 217 deputies to constitute the Assembly of People's Representatives, the Independent High Authority for Elections said (ISIE).

ADEN -- An officer of the Yemeni southern forces was killed Friday by unknown gunmen in the turbulent province of Abyan, a government official told Xinhua.

BAGHDAD -- Iraq's prominent Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on Friday urged the government of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to resign amid the rising death toll in the ongoing anti-government protests.
