HONG KONG -- Unlawful assemblies in different parts of Hong Kong turned violent again on Sunday evening as rampant black-clad, masked rioters blocked roads, attacked bystanders and vandalized public and private facilities.

Violent incidents took place in areas including the Hong Kong Island and Kowloon since Sunday afternoon, participated by many who wore face covering despite an anti-mask ban that went into effect on Saturday. (HK-Violence)

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- Nine people including six insurgents and three police were killed as a clash erupted in Qala-e-Zal district of northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province on Sunday, head of provincial council Mohammad Yusuf Ayubi said.

The clash broke out after a group of Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Aqtipa area in the outskirt of Qala-e-Zal district headquarters in the morning, triggering a gun battle, which lasted for a few hours. HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's anti-mask law will not curtail the freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, Matthew Cheung, chief secretary for administration of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said Sunday.

The HKSAR government on Friday invoked an emergency law to put in place an anti-mask regulation as a deterrent to rioters, most of whom have used masks to conceal their identities in the months-long unrest. (HK-Anti Mask Law)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong groups including the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association and the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (HKFTU) which were attacked by rioters on Friday night have spoken out against the violence committed by rioters.
