BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Natural disasters affected about 110 million people in China in the first three quarters of 2019, with 766 killed, 103 missing and 4.96 million relocated, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management Thursday.

Destroying houses and damaging crops, natural disasters caused direct economic losses of 306.32 billion yuan (about 43.31 billion U.S. dollars) in the January-September period, the ministry said.

The country was mainly hit by floods, typhoons, geological disasters and droughts in the period, while hailstorms, earthquakes, low temperatures, snow disasters and forest fires caused damages to various extents.

The overall impact of natural disasters in the first three quarters was slightly down from the same period over the past five years, with the death toll and missing population, relocated population, number of collapsed houses and direct economic losses reduced by 25 percent, 17 percent, 55 percent and 3 percent, respectively, the ministry added.
