TIANJIN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Ice Cream China 2019, Asia's biggest ice cream fair, opened Monday in north China's Tianjin Municipality, attracting more than 400 companies from around the world.

"Ice Cream China has established a trading platform for companies from the globe to showcase their new products and new equipment. It's a good opportunity for them to communicate and share industry information with each other," said Zhang Jiukui, president of the China Association of Bakery & Confectionery Industry.

With over 1,000 booths covering 42,000 square meters, the exhibition showcases a wide range of products in the ice cream industry, including branded finished products, raw materials, machinery and cold chain package, according to Zhang.

According to China's National Bureau of Statistics, China's 139 major frozen drink producers yielded nearly 1.85 million tonnes of frozen drinks from January to July this year, bringing more than 18.6 billion yuan (2.6 billion U.S. dollars) in sales, a year-on-year growth of 8.08 percent.

"Ice cream, as a snack food, is becoming more and more popular among Chinese customers, especially young customers. The future of the industry is very promising," said Zhang.

The exhibition, aiming to enhance the innovation of the industry and promote cooperation, has been held for 21 years. Enditem
