HONG KONG -- Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam said on Wednesday that Hong Kong will be able to get out of the impasse as long as the principle of "one country, two systems" is accurately adhered to.

Lam made the remarks while delivering the 2019 policy address.

"In the 22 years since Hong Kong returned to the motherland, 'one country, two systems' has proven to be the best system for ensuring the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong," Lam said. (HK-Policy address)

MANILA -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has further slashed its economic growth forecast for the Philippines for 2019 and 2020 to 5.7 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively, as the economy slowed down in the second quarter and as external environment worsens, the Washington-based global lender said on Wednesday.

The IMF's updated projection for 2019 is below the government's 6 percent to 7 percent target range and lower to its July projection of 6 percent. In April, the IMF originally projected the Philippines to grow 6.5 percent this year. (Philippines-IMF-Economy)

MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan -- Two police officers and a civilian were killed and 43 people wounded after a car bomb blast rocked Alishing district in Afghanistan's eastern Laghman province on Wednesday, the district chief said.
