KUNMING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Yunnan Province sent a record amount of electricity to eastern regions in the first three quarters of the year.

The province sent 115.5 billion kWh of electricity to Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan in the January-September period, up 10.8 percent year on year, according to the Yunnan subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid.

The company said it is expected to send more than 140 billion kWh of electricity in the west-east electricity transmission program in 2019.

The hydropower from Yunnan accounts for over 60 percent of all the China Southern Power Grid transfers in the west-east electricity transmission program.

Yunnan has sent 797 million kWh of electricity to Hainan since June when it started transmitting power to the country's southern-most island province. Enditem
