WUHAN, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's Igor Reizlin won the gold medal of men's individual epee here on Sunday at the 7th Military World Games, while Russia's Iana Egorian was the winner in women's individual sabre.

Reizlin, bronze medalist of 2019 World Championships, edged out Alan Fardzinov of Russia 15-12 in the final.

"This competition heralds a good start to the new season. It's the Olympic year, we need to qualify for the Olympics. I think this is a good foundation for that," Reizlin said.

Russian fencer Egorian grabbed the gold medal of women's sabre after defeating Qian Jiaru of China by 15-11. Talking about facing a local athlete in the final, Egorian said, "the spectators had no effect on me in this case because I did not hear anyone. I was in my own world."

Ukraine's Alina Komashchuk and Poland's Malgorzata Kozaczuk won bronze medals in the sabre, while Hwang Hyeon-il of South Korea and Lucas Malcotti of Switzerland ranked third in the men's individual epee. Enditem
