CAIRO -- Israel on Tuesday denied press reports that it installed air defense systems to protect the disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam that Ethiopia is building on the Nile river.

"There have been some rumors recently that Israeli air defense systems are being used to protect Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam... these are just rumors," the Israeli embassy in Cairo posted on its official Facebook page. (Egypt-Israel-Ethiopia Dam Dispute)

BAGHDAD -- Two high-ranking officers from the Iraqi federal police and four policemen were killed Tuesday in Islamic State (IS) attack in Iraq's central province of Salahuddin, a provincial police source said.

The extremist militants attacked a joint force from the federal police and paramilitary Hashd Shaabi on patrol in boats in Tigris River at an area located in north of the city of Samarra, some 120 km north of the capital Baghdad, Mohammed al-Bazi from Salahuddin police told Xinhua. DAMASCUS -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with Syrian soldiers in Idlib province, the country's largest rebel bastion, on Tuesday, state TV reported.

The president met with the Syrian soldiers on the front line in the town of Habit in Idlib countryside, said the report with no further details. (Syria-Idlib)

ADEN -- At least four pro-government Yemeni soldiers were killed and three others injured on Tuesday when an explosive device struck their vehicle in the Red Sea port city of Mocha, a security official told Xinhua.

"An explosion caused by an explosive device targeted a military vehicle carrying pro-government soldiers in Mocha, where anti-Houthi troops are deployed," the local security source said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Gov't Soldiers-Deaths) Enditem
