BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.54 percent, at 2,991.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.71 percent higher at 9,938.61 points.
The combined trading volume of stocks in the two indexes expanded to 481.5 billion yuan (about 68.4 billion U.S. dollars) from 469.41 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumber losers by 743 to 637 on the Shanghai bourse while losers outnumber gainers by 1,021 to 1,010 in Shenzhen.
Companies in forestry sector saw robust growth in its share price, with shares of Fujian Jinsen Forestry Co., Ltd. gaining 6.89 percent to 18.93 yuan per share.
Companies related to transportation and warehousing led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.79 percent to close at 1,713.29 points. Enditem
