SHIJIAZHUANG, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- A survey group has found a large cluster of wild-grown ribgrass (narrow-leaved plantain) in north China's Hebei Province during a field investigation for the fourth national survey on Chinese materia medica resources.

The wild ribgrass community, concentrated in a belt shape in Shiwangji Township of Weixian County, spans 800 meters with a maximum width of 14 meters, according to Fu Zhengliang, the group leader.

The leaves and roots of ribgrass are used as traditional Chinese medicine and help stop bleeding, soothe coughs and relieve muscle spasms.

The discovery of the herb, which was not recorded as growing in Hebei, is of great significance for the study of local herbal medicine resource distribution and the ecological environment, Fu said. Enditem
