BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,000 guests from 79 countries gathered at the 2019 Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) & China-Africa Energy and Power Conference Wednesday to discuss cooperation on sustainable development in the energy industry.

The conference, hosted by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), provided new ideas and solutions for countries seeking sustainable development and international energy cooperation, said Liu Zhenya, chairman of GEIDCO.

At the conference, GEIDCO signed cooperation agreements with organizations including the Central African Power Pool and World Meteorological Organization to strengthen practical cooperation in joint research, information exchange, project implementation and technical and business practices.

Liu called for more breakthroughs and widespread application of key technologies, like ultra-high voltage transmission, smart grids and utilization of clean energy.

The China-initiated GEI gained compliments and positive responses from the international society, and could help Africa to realize interconnection, said Guinea's minister of energy and water Cheick Taliby Sylla.

The conference, which runs from Nov. 6 to 7, will release two research reports, and see several sub-forums on energy interconnection in Africa, as well as an equipment exhibition to promote project investment. Enditem
