1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close mixed Tuesday

BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices closed mixed Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.17 percent, at 2,914.82 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.11 percent lower at 9,670.14 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 365.5 billion yuan (about 52.22 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 423 billion yuan in the previous trading day.

Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 797 to 591 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,249 to 817 in Shenzhen.

Companies in paper making and digital currency sectors posted strong performances, with stocks of Qifeng New Material Co., Ltd. climbing by 3.5 percent to 5.91 yuan per share.

Shares of rare earth and gold companies led the losses. Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co., ltd. saw its shares drop by 2.59 percent to 4.13 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.1 percent to close at 1,671.44 points Tuesday. Enditem
