SHIJIAZHUANG, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's benchmark power coal price dropped slightly during the past week, continuing a downward trend.
The Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index (BSPI), a gauge of coal prices in north China's major ports, stood at 560 yuan (about 80 U.S. dollars) per tonne Wednesday, a drop of ten yuan week on week, according to Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd.
Analysts said behind the bearish sentiment in the market there was a mismatch between supply and demand for coal, which was a fundamental reason for a continuous fall in coal prices.
Some downstream enterprises have stocked up on imported coal ahead of schedule. In October, China had a total of 25.69 million tonnes of imported coal, which still has a lingering impact on the coal market. Enditem
