BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY FOR LIVESTOCK FARMING

Chinese experts have developed a "digital farming" technology to help herdsmen monitor their pastures, and manage livestock accurately.

Technologists from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences developed a digital farming system, providing monthly information about grass growth, grassland yield and regional droughts. They have also developed technologies and a smart phone app that could help farmers obtain real-time information about the behavior and diets of their livestock.

LAB-GROWN MEAT

Chinese scientists have produced 5 grams of meat cultured from animal muscle stem cells, according to the Nanjing Agricultural University in east China's Jiangsu Province.

A team led by Zhou Guanghong harvested the meat after cultivating pig muscle stem cells for 20 days. It is the first meat developed from muscle stem cells in China.

GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS IN RICE PRODUCTION

The greenhouse gas emissions from China's rice fields have been reduced by 70 percent over the past five decades, according to a recent Chinese study.

The findings illustrate that it is possible to enhance rice productivity at reduced environmental costs through screening for low emission varieties and agronomic techniques. Future innovations should ensure that rice farming progressively adapts to climate change, while continuing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to the study. Enditem
